Prof. A.B. Ogunkoya: DVM, MVPH, PhD

Professor of Veterinary Medicine at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He has vast experience in research and education in epizootiology, with international track record in the study of rabies and rabies related viruses. His serological, virological, immunology and genomics work on rabies in both man and animals took him to Iowa State University in 1974 where he conducted his PhD research in the Laboratory of Dr. Frod. His community service delivery with global collaboration and communication led to the partnership with the Alliance for Rabies Control Group in North America and has contributed to the progress of the World Rabies Day activities and associated successes recorded at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in the recent past. Professor Ogunkoya has mentored several students now actively playing their own parts in the control of rabies and rabies related viruses in the world. One of his former graduate students now works with the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. He has several as external examiner at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine in a number of Nigerian Universities (Ibadan, Nzukka, and Umudike) where he grooms students for future career. He has over 60 scientific publications in reputable journals
